Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains how The Foreigns collects, uses, and protects your personal information.

Effective date: March 24, 2026

1. Information We Collect

When you book a vehicle, create an account, or contact us, we may collect the following:

  • Contact information — name, email address, phone number
  • Booking details — dates, times, vehicle preferences, pickup/drop-off locations
  • Identity verification — driver’s licence or government-issued ID (for self-drive rentals)
  • Payment information — processed securely through Stripe; we do not store your full card number
  • Communications — emails, messages, and call records related to your booking
  • Technical data — IP address, browser type, and device information when you visit our website

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your personal information to:

  • Process and manage your vehicle reservations
  • Verify your identity and eligibility to drive
  • Communicate booking confirmations, updates, and reminders
  • Process payments and issue invoices
  • Respond to your enquiries and provide customer support
  • Improve our services, website, and overall customer experience
  • Comply with legal obligations

3. Payment Processing

All payments are processed through Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant payment processor. Your payment card details are transmitted directly to Stripe over encrypted connections and are never stored on our servers. Please refer to Stripe’s Privacy Policy for details on how they handle your data.

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share your data with:

  • Service providers — payment processors, email services, and hosting providers that help us operate our business
  • Insurance partners — when required for vehicle rental coverage
  • Law enforcement — when required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights

5. Cookies & Analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences, maintain your session, and understand how visitors interact with our site.

5.1 Cookie Consent

When you first visit our site, a banner asks you to accept or decline non-essential cookies. If you accept, we load the analytics tools described below. If you decline, no analytics scripts are loaded and no tracking cookies are set. Your choice is stored in a cookie (_tf_cookie_consent) that persists for one year. You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser cookies and revisiting the site.

5.2 Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand website traffic and visitor behaviour. GA4 collects data such as pages visited, time spent on pages, device and browser information, and general geographic location derived from your IP address. GA4 uses first-party cookies to distinguish unique users and sessions. We do not use GA4 to collect personally identifiable information. For more information, please see Google’s Privacy Policy.

5.3 Microsoft Clarity

We use Microsoft Clarity to capture session recordings and generate heatmaps that show how visitors interact with our website. Clarity helps us identify usability issues and improve the booking experience. Sensitive content — including text entered into form fields, payment information, and uploaded documents — is automatically masked and is not captured or transmitted by Clarity. For authenticated users, we transmit only a numeric user identifier (no name, email, or other personal details) to link sessions. For more information, please see Microsoft’s Privacy Statement.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Booking records are typically retained for a minimum of seven (7) years for tax and regulatory purposes.

7. Your Rights

Under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Withdraw consent for non-essential data processing
  • Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal retention requirements

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us.

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information, including encrypted connections (TLS/SSL), secure server infrastructure, and restricted access controls. While no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, we take reasonable precautions to safeguard your data.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of our services after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
